Ayurveda is the world's oldest organised system of medicine, and Kerala is where it has been most rigorously practised for the longest time, by lineages of vaidya physicians who have been transmitting their formulations son-to-son and daughter-to-daughter for a thousand years.
The itinerary is designed around the principle that genuine Ayurvedic treatment requires time — the kind of time that a three-night 'Ayurveda experience' in a spa hotel is not able to provide. We've built a minimum of seven days at a traditional Ayurvedic property where the treatments are designed and supervised by a qualified vaidya who assesses your constitution and prescribes accordingly, not by a wellness coordinator working from a menu of standardised packages.
The beach component of this journey is the recovery from the recovery: the Malabar Coast's beaches are among the most beautiful in India and among the least visited by international tourists, which makes the combination of an intensive Ayurvedic programme and several days of genuine coastal relaxation both logistically coherent and experientially complete. You leave Kerala with a body that has been systematically restored and a mind that has been systematically slowed, which is either the description of an excellent holiday or an excellent medicine and is, in this case, both.
Fly into Trivandrum and transfer roughly 30 minutes to your cliffside retreat above Kovalam's coastline. Settle in with an introductory consultation with an Ayurvedic physician to determine your treatment plan.
Morning treatment session according to your personalized plan, followed by a guided yoga session, with the rest of the day unstructured.
Continued daily treatment and yoga, with an optional evening walk down to Kovalam's lighthouse beach.
Continued daily treatment and yoga, with a guided meditation added in the late afternoon.
Continued daily treatment program, with time to enjoy the retreat's grounds and sea-facing terraces.
Continued daily treatment and yoga sessions as your body settles into the program's rhythm.
A final treatment session and closing consultation with your physician, with dietary and lifestyle recommendations to carry forward into the second half of your trip.
Fly from Trivandrum to Goa, connecting via Mumbai or Bengaluru if needed, and transfer roughly 90 minutes south to Palolem on Goa's quieter southern coast.
A first full day to settle into Goa's slower pace, with Palolem's coconut-palm-lined crescent beach for swimming and an optional dolphin-spotting boat trip.
A day exploring Goa's Portuguese colonial heritage in Old Goa, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Sé Cathedral, followed by a walk through Panaji's Fontainhas quarter with its pastel-colored Portuguese-era houses.
A free day at leisure, with an optional drive to neighboring Agonda Beach, known for being even quieter than Palolem and a known nesting site for Olive Ridley sea turtles in season.
Visit Cabo de Rama Fort, a clifftop Portuguese-era fortification with sweeping coastal views, followed by an afternoon Goan cooking class to learn the Portuguese-Indian flavors that define the region's cuisine.
An entirely unstructured day on the beach, with an optional Ayurvedic massage at one of Palolem's wellness studios if you'd like to keep the routine going.
A last relaxed day by the water before departure, with time for any final shopping at local markets for cashews, spices, and feni, Goa's local cashew liquor.
Transfer roughly 90 minutes to Dabolim Airport, Goa, for your onward or departing flight.
| Tier | Accommodation Category | Price Per Person |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Well-rated Ayurveda resort in Kovalam, 3-star beach resort in Goa | From $2,950 |
| Comfort | Premium cliffside retreat in Kovalam, well-rated beachfront resort near Palolem | From $4,150 |
| Premium | Top-tier suites in Kovalam, luxury beachfront villa in South Goa | From $6,800 |
Pricing is per person, based on double occupancy, and varies with season and current accommodation and treatment rates. Many Ayurvedic practitioners consider the monsoon months (June through September) the most beneficial for treatment, though South Goa's beaches are quieter and less swimmable during this period; November through February offers the best balance for both halves of the trip. All prices are estimates based on current published rates and are confirmed in writing before booking. This program is not a substitute for medical care; please consult your doctor before beginning any new wellness program.
