Rajasthan is the rarest kind of destination — a place where the history isn't behind glass in a museum, it's the building you're sleeping in tonight.

This 22-day journey is the complete Rajasthan story, told at a pace that lets it actually sink in. You'll move through five of the state's great cities — Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, and Pushkar — sleeping in converted palaces and forts rather than international hotel chains, with private drivers and English-speaking guides handling every transfer so the only thing you have to think about is which fort to fall in love with first.

This itinerary is built for travellers who want Rajasthan done properly: enough time in each city to actually understand it, heritage hotels chosen for character rather than just star ratings, and the breathing room to take a slow afternoon when a place asks for one. It is not rushed. That's the entire point. Rajasthan punishes the traveller who moves too fast through it and rewards the one who stays still long enough to notice that the Jodhpur night sky is blue because the houses below it are, and that this is somehow a completely reasonable thing for a city to have decided.

Day By Day

Your 22 Days in Rajasthan

01Arrival
Arrive in Delhi

Land in Delhi and meet your TripRoutesIndia representative at the airport. Transfer privately to your hotel and spend the rest of the day recovering from the flight — we deliberately build no sightseeing into day one. Jet lag is real, and there's no reason to fight it on the day you need it least.

Stay: The Leela Palace New Delhi or Taj Palace New Delhi — both five-star properties a short drive from the airport, chosen for comfort on a travel-heavy day rather than sightseeing convenience.
Delhi arrival
02Delhi
Old & New Delhi

A full day with a private guide covering both faces of the capital: Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar in the calmer morning light, then the sensory plunge of Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk in the afternoon — rickshaw rides through impossibly narrow lanes, spice markets, and the Jama Masjid's vast courtyard.

Stay: Same as previous night.
Humayun's Tomb Delhi
03Agra
Drive to Agra, Taj Mahal at Sunset

Private car to Agra (around 3.5 hours), with a stop at Sikandra's Akbar's Tomb along the way. Check in, rest, then visit the Taj Mahal in the late afternoon as the marble shifts through its golden-hour colors. Agra Fort follows the next morning.

Stay: The Oberoi Amarvilas — rooms with direct Taj Mahal views, widely regarded as the finest hotel in Agra.
Taj Mahal Agra
04Agra → Jaipur
Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Drive to Jaipur

Sunrise return visit to the Taj Mahal if the light calls for it, then Agra Fort. Depart for Jaipur (around 5 hours) with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital — one of the most atmospheric, least crowded major sites on the entire circuit.

Stay: Rambagh Palace, Jaipur — the former residence of Jaipur's Maharaja, with private courtyards, a peacock-strutted lawn, and arguably the single most celebrated heritage hotel in India.

05Jaipur
Amber Fort & City Palace

Morning at the Amber Fort, arriving early to beat both the heat and the crowds, followed by the City Palace and Jantar Mantar observatory. Afternoon free for the bazaars of the Pink City — block-printed textiles, blue pottery, and gemstones are all genuine specialties here, not tourist-trap dressing.

Stay: Same as previous night.
Amber Fort Jaipur
06Jaipur
Hawa Mahal & A Free Afternoon

A shorter sightseeing morning at the Hawa Mahal and Jaigarh Fort, leaving the afternoon genuinely open. Most travelers use it for a cooking class, a second pass through the bazaars, or simply enjoying Rambagh Palace's gardens and spa.

Stay: Same as previous night.
Hawa Mahal Jaipur
07Jaipur → Jodhpur
Drive to Jodhpur

Private drive to Jodhpur (around 5.5 hours), with a stop en route at Ajmer's Dargah Sharif or Pushkar's ghats depending on the day's pace. Arrive in the Blue City by evening.

Stay: Umaid Bhawan Palace — one of the largest private residences on earth, still partly home to the royal family, with the rest operating as a Taj hotel.

08Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort & The Blue City

A full morning at Mehrangarh Fort, one of the best-preserved and most dramatically sited forts in India, with sweeping views over Jodhpur's blue-painted old town. Afternoon spent walking the old city streets and markets around the clock tower.

Stay: Same as previous night.
Mehrangarh Fort Jodhpur Blue City
09Jodhpur → Jaisalmer
Drive to Jaisalmer

Private drive deep into the Thar Desert toward Jaisalmer (around 5.5 hours). The landscape thins out dramatically along the way — this is the most remote leg of the entire trip, and it feels like it.

Stay: Suryagarh — a contemporary fort-style luxury property roughly 20 minutes outside town, widely considered the best hotel in the region.

10Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort & The Havelis

Morning exploring the still-inhabited Jaisalmer Fort and the ornately carved havelis of Patwon Ki Haveli. The honey-colored sandstone here looks unlike anywhere else in Rajasthan, especially in the late afternoon light.

Stay: Same as previous night.

11Jaisalmer
Sam Sand Dunes Camel Safari & Desert Camp

Afternoon transfer to the Sam Sand Dunes for a camel safari at sunset, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in a luxury desert camp under a genuinely dark, star-filled sky — one of the most-talked-about nights on the entire 22 days.

Stay: Luxury desert camp at Sam Sand Dunes (private tents with en-suite bathrooms).

12Jaisalmer → Udaipur
Fly or Drive to Udaipur

Return to Jaisalmer in the morning, then fly to Udaipur (recommended over the long drive at this point in the trip) via Jodhpur. Arrive by early evening to your lake-facing hotel.

Stay: Taj Lake Palace — the famous floating marble palace on Lake Pichola, reachable only by private boat.
Udaipur Lake Pichola
13Udaipur
City Palace & Lake Pichola

Morning at the City Palace complex, Udaipur's largest royal residence, followed by a private boat ride across Lake Pichola at golden hour — consistently rated by past travelers as one of the most beautiful moments of the entire trip.

Stay: Same as previous night.

14Udaipur
Free Day & Optional Excursions

A deliberately open day. Options include a half-day excursion to Kumbhalgarh Fort and the Ranakpur Jain Temple, a cooking class, or simply enjoying the Taj Lake Palace's own grounds and spa.

Stay: Same as previous night.

15Udaipur → Pushkar
Drive to Pushkar

Private drive to Pushkar (around 5.5 hours), a small holy town built around a sacred lake — a quieter, more contemplative stop after the grandeur of the previous two weeks.

Stay: Ananta Spa & Resorts Pushkar or a comparable heritage property overlooking the lake.
Drive to Pushkar
16Pushkar
Pushkar Lake & Brahma Temple

A gentle day at the ghats of Pushkar Lake and the Brahma Temple, one of the only temples in India dedicated to this particular deity. The pace here is intentionally slow after two weeks of fairly intense sightseeing.

Stay: Same as previous night.
Pushkar Lake
17Pushkar → Jaipur
Return to Jaipur

Short private drive back to Jaipur (around 2.5 hours). Afternoon free for any unfinished bazaar shopping or a final visit to a sight that called for a second look earlier in the trip.

Stay: The Oberoi Rajvilas — a different register of Jaipur luxury from Rambagh Palace, set across 32 acres with its own Shiv temple on the grounds.

18Jaipur
Optional Hot Air Balloon & Leisure Day

An optional early-morning hot air balloon ride over the Aravalli hills (weather permitting), followed by a relaxed day at the resort. Many travelers use this day simply to enjoy Rajvilas itself.

Stay: Same as previous night.

20Delhi
Leisure Day in Delhi

A genuinely open day — anything from a Lutyens' Delhi architecture walk to a final round of shopping at Dilli Haat or Khan Market. This buffer day also protects against any earlier delays catching up with the schedule.

Stay: Same as previous night.

Final Day & Farewell Dinner

A relaxed final full day. Most groups close the trip with a private farewell dinner — a chance to look back over three weeks that, by this point, will feel like considerably more than 22 days.
