Ranthambore
Full Day — Two Tiger Safaris
Two safaris today: pre-dawn (6am) and afternoon (3pm). The morning safari — in the chill before sunrise when the forest is most active — gives the best odds of tiger sightings. Between safaris: rest at the lodge, review photographs, and enjoy a naturalist presentation on Ranthambore's tiger conservation history. In 1973, Project Tiger saved the Bengal tiger from extinction in India. Ranthambore was one of the original reserves.

Ranthambore → Bundi
Drive to Bundi — Rajasthan's Hidden Gem
Drive from Ranthambore to Bundi (approx 2.5 hours) — one of Rajasthan's least-visited and most atmospheric towns. The step-well (baoli) at Raniji ki Baori is extraordinary: a 46-metre deep structure lined with carved panels descending to the water in geometric tiers. Bundi Palace, perched on the hillside above town, has some of the finest Rajput murals in India — painted in vivid mineral pigments in the 17th century, still luminous. The narrow lanes below the palace are pure medieval Rajasthan.

Bundi → Udaipur
Drive Through the Aravalli Hills → Udaipur Arrival
One of Rajasthan's most beautiful drives — through the Aravalli Hills and the forested countryside of southern Rajasthan to Udaipur (approx 4 hours). Arrive in the Venice of the East. Check in to your lakeside heritage hotel. Evening: a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola — watching the Lake Palace turn from white to pale gold to deep orange as the sun descends behind the Aravalli ridge.

Udaipur
City Palace → Jagdish Temple → Vintage Car Museum → Mewar Royal Dinner
Full Udaipur day. The City Palace complex — the largest in Rajasthan, a 400-year accumulation of courtyards, mirror rooms, and lake-view terraces. Jagdish Temple, the 17th-century Vishnu shrine with its intricate carved facade, a short walk from the palace. The Vintage and Classic Car Collection at the City Palace — Maharana of Mewar's extraordinary fleet of royal automobiles including a 1934 Rolls Royce converted to run on rails for the royal hunt. Evening: heritage dinner at Ambrai — perhaps the finest lakeside restaurant in Udaipur, with the Lake Palace directly opposite.

Drive to the Blue City — Jodhpur Arrival
Drive from Udaipur to Jodhpur (approx 5 hours through the Aravalli Hills and the Marwar countryside). Arrive Jodhpur. Check in to your heritage property. Evening walk below Mehrangarh Fort for the iconic view — the fort walls rising 400 feet from the rock, and the blue-painted city of Jodhpur spread below it in the fading light.

Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort → Blue City Walk → Sardar Market → Cooking Class
The finest fort in India. Mehrangarh's museum is exceptional — Mughal howdahs, Rajput armour, jewelled daggers, and miniature paintings. The rampart views across Jodhpur's sea of blue rooftops to the Thar Desert horizon are genuinely extraordinary. Afternoon: guided walk through the blue-painted lanes of the old city below the fort — a neighbourhood of narrow streets, white-painted Brahmin houses (traditionally painted blue to denote social status), and temple courtyards. Sardar Market — clock tower bazaar — for textiles, spices, and silver. Evening: cooking class at a local home — dal baati churma, laal maas (fierce red lamb curry), and churma (sweet crumbled flour dessert).

Jodhpur → Jaisalmer
Drive Into the Thar — The Desert Journey
Drive from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer (approx 5.5 hours) — an extraordinary journey into the Thar Desert as the vegetation thins and the landscape becomes pure desert. Stop at Osian — 8th-century Jain and Hindu temples in the desert, virtually unvisited, and astonishing. Arrive Jaisalmer in the late afternoon as the golden sandstone fort glows in the raking desert light. Check in to your fort-interior heritage hotel or haveli near the fort walls.

Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort → Patwon Ki Haveli → Sand Dune Safari → Desert Camp
Morning inside the living fort — the Jain temples, Raj Mahal palace, and the narrow lanes where 3,000 residents still live. Patwon Ki Haveli — the most elaborate of Jaisalmer's famous merchant mansions, with intricately carved golden sandstone facades. Afternoon: camel and jeep safari to the Khuri or Sam sand dunes (45km from Jaisalmer) — the most dramatic dunes in the Thar. Watch the sunset from the top of a dune, then dinner at a luxury desert camp by firelight, with folk musicians and dancers. Return to hotel.
